At TEA ME TINY, “organic” isn’t just a catchphrase or a term we use lightly. We are proud of our organic commitment to using only 100% certified organic ingredients and that no conventional grown herb will find its way into our teas. It’s a lifestyle for us and guides how we do business.
We believe that when it comes to the health and well-being of our customers organic ingredients should be the first and only option for a detox.
Soil needs to maintain a mutually beneficial connection with everything near to it. When this relationship is impaired through chemical means, everything changes.
Organic farming methods often encompass a lot more work, but take far less of a toll on the environment through careful harvesting, soil building, assimilation of the local environment, composting and crop rotation.
Standard non-organic agricultural procedures require great amounts of artificial chemicals and fertilizers, which are directly sprayed onto the crops or inserted into the soil. This practice ruins billions of living organisms found in the soil, shedding the land of the vital building blocks of life.
When our families, friends, co-workers, peers, and neighbors pick conventionally grown products over organic goods, our communities and the farmers who produce the food we depend on for survival are put in jeopardy.
Through a process known as bio-accumulation, all plants absorb nutrients and matter through root uptake. Conventional non-organic farms use thousands of pounds of artificial agricultural fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides, which are ingested by the crops they produce.
Washing your fruits and vegetables because of pesticide residue worries is sadly useless, as there is no way to wash away the chemicals that have been absorbed through bio-accumulation. Organic farming methods do not rely on rigorous chemical applications, but rather on composting, natural fertilizers, and green amendments that contribute to healthy plant uptake. This is something that is great for you and great for the planet earth.
• The EPA estimates that US and Canadian sales of pesticides in 2000-2001 exceeded $11 billion dollars, thus representing over 2 billion pounds of pesticides being dumped on US and Canadian farm soil, homes, gardens, schools, golf courses and more. This number is about 7 pounds for every man, woman and child in the US and Canada.
• There are over 21,000 different pesticides on the US and Canadian market containing over 875 active compounds. Many of these have been proven to have health consequences while the effects of others are (to this day) yet to be uncovered.
• Lawn pesticides and herbicides can cause cancer, infertility, birth defects, developmental disorders, and will double the risk of canine lymphoma in dogs through exposure.
• Since 1945, total US and Canadian crop losses from insect damage have nearly doubled. During the same time, insecticide use has increased tenfold. Today, seventy-one known carcinogenic pesticides are sprayed on food crops. (In Harmony's report, "Pesticides: Losing Their Effectiveness")
• EPA estimates that there are approximately 20,000 physician diagnosed pesticide poisonings each year among agricultural workers. Of course, this does not account for those which are unreported.
• Pound for pound, children absorb a higher concentration of pesticides and herbicides than adults.
• According to the US General Accounting Office, only 1% of all imported fruits and vegetables are tested by the Food and Drug Administration for illegal pesticide residues.
• The CDC has gone on record as stating, "Pesticides are toxic to life forms by their very design."
We are anti-GMO!
Unfortunately, using toxins and poisons are just one negative practice among many. Conventional farms regularly use genetically modified seeds that are engineered to be pest resistant and are easily grown in poor soil. Genetic engineering is still an experimental practice, so we still don’t even know the full impact of growing these plants, but the rise of new “superweeds,” more resilient pests, and harmful diseases have been reported. There are other fears that GMO crops can harm non-target animal species such as insects, birds, bats, and animals that forage from these conventional farms.
As panic continues to grow over the long-term health effects of GMOs, more and more consumers fight for their right to know what’s in their food. Without comprehensive testing, the safety of genetically modified food is uncomfortably questionable. The partial safety tests that are currently in place are often conducted by the very same companies and corporations that use GMO ingredients. This reason alone demonstrates the importance and social responsibility of companies practicing transparency to their customers.
There are 4 things that truly matter to us:
1. Your health and wellbeing
2. Only certified organic or pesticide-free herbs in our teas.
3. Lively, flavoursome, powerful, and dependable teas that surpass your expectations.
4. Ingredients that are proven safe through laboratory analysis.
From the second our herbs are collected to the time they arrive on our supplier’s docks, each step is carefully monitored and logged. Our suppliers go through rigorous laboratory analysis, sample screenings and complete a thorough inspection before shipping our herbs to our facility.
Before purchasing herbs, our suppliers examine the potential social and environmental impacts of growing, gathering, and drying herbs. This applies to all goods harvested and produced overseas, as well as right here in Canada and the United States.
Our suppliers enforce a firm policy that promises workers a just market value for the herbs they supply. Any company that does not compensate workers with a fair wage, equal voice, or is believed to be compromising the ecosystem have been discounted or refusal to carry their products.
The first choice when obtaining herbs is certified organic. If organic isn’t available, our suppliers will choose for wild harvested or "cultivated without chemicals" option instead. If wild gathered material is collected, each worker must complete a "wild take audit" to ensure that our treasurable plant populations have only undergone a sustainable 10% take.
Before any herbs are permissible into our supplier’s facilities, they request a "pre-ship" sample for analysis. The sample is then analyzed using organoleptic and laboratory methods. If and when approved, only then is authorized for order.
When the herbs arrives at their facility, they are instantly quarantined for Quality Control assessment. At this point, a qualified Quality Control member will extract samples for immediate testing in our laboratory. Once the herbs have passed all laboratory exams they are shipped to us and packaged to be sent to you.
Here are TEA ME TINY, we are anti-laxatives! Our teas are blended to give you maximum and lasting results without harmful and painful side effects.
A lot of detox, weight loss, and teatox teas on the market today are hiding a scary ingredient from their users. Laxatives. Unfortunately, many people are unaware that laxative abuse and even short term laxative use can come with numerous, unpleasant consequences and can even result in death.
Frequent bowel movements caused by laxatives tend to give people a false sense of being cleansed. While some quick weight loss may be obtained, most of the pounds shed are from loss of water weight. Once the laxative use is stopped, most, if not all the weight lost will be regained fairly quickly.
Not only are laxatives not the ideal way to permanently lose weight, they can be very unhealthy for the body and can create many unpleasant side effects. With laxative use, some people do not realize that they are also cleansing themselves of important nutrients and calories, affecting their natural fat absorption, and upsetting their electrolyte levels. Other serious possible consequences from taking laxatives to lose weight are:
Diarrhea is a common side effect of laxative use. This is dangerous because it can lead to dehydration.
2. Rectal bleeding
Frequent laxative use can cause rectal bleeding. This is a side effect of frequent bowel movements and/or diarrhea.
3. Electrolyte Imbalance & Dehydration
Electrolytes are important to the functioning human body. Laxative use causes loss of important electrolytes such as potassium, calcium, and sodium. A long-term electrolyte imbalance can lead to an electrolyte disorder. Some of the symptoms of an electrolyte imbalance include muscle fatigue, mental changes, cramping, irregular heart beat and even death. Also, chronic diarrhea creates a loss of water which can lead to dehydration, which is a life threatening situation. Dehydration can cause weakness, blurry vision, fainting, kidney damage and death.
4. Damage to Intestinal Functioning
Consistent use of laxatives as a method for dieting can cause damage to the gastrointestinal tract, which can be permanent. Chronic use of laxatives can lead to a loss in the proper functioning of the tract. The body becomes habituated to the laxative doses. Once laxative use is halted, the intestines can slow down and lose their ability to remove food from the body. This, in turn, can lead to severe constipation. Also, the nerve endings which surround the large intestines are changed by chronic laxative use, causing them to no longer respond to stimulation. This creates a cycle of requiring larger doses of laxatives to create a bowel movement.
5. Stomach Cramps
Laxatives can cause painful stomach cramps. Even laxatives that are known to be “mild” can cause extremely abdominal contractions from just one low dose.
Laxatives can cause nausea in some people, which is an uncomfortable feeling that can last for up to 3 days after taking a laxative.
Vomiting can occur with laxative use because the medication in the laxatives upset the lining in the stomach.
Fainting can occur with laxative use. This normally happens when a person becomes very weak from diarrhea and dehydration.
Laxative use can cause dizziness. Again, this side effect is usually caused by dehydration.
Once used, it can be hard for your body to process a normal bowel movement without the use of laxatives. Short or long term use can leave you dependent and begin a terrible cycle.
Please seek medical attention if you believe you or someone you know is dependent on laxatives or is experiencing any of these symptoms.
